Corney and Barrow is a venerable name in the world of wine and hospitality, with a rich history that spans over 200 years. The story begins in 1780, when Edward Bland Corney established a wine merchant business in the heart of London’s financial district. His shop, located on Old Broad Street, quickly gained a reputation for offering quality wines and spirits.


In 1837, Edward’s nephew, Frederick Corney, joined the business, and the firm became known as Corney & Corney. The company continued to prosper, supplying wine to prestigious clients, including members of the British aristocracy and high society.


In 1870, Frederick Corney’s nephew-in-law, Thomas Barrow, joined the firm, and the company was rebranded as Corney & Barrow. Under Thomas Barrow’s leadership, the business expanded its operations, establishing a strong presence in London’s wine trade.


Throughout the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Corney & Barrow continued to grow, acquiring vineyards in Bordeaux and expanding its portfolio of wines. The company also diversified its offerings, venturing into the hospitality sector by opening wine bars and restaurants in London.

During the 20th century, Corney & Barrow weathered various challenges, including two World Wars and economic downturns. However, the company’s commitment to quality and service enabled it to endure, and it emerged as one of the most respected names in the British wine industry.


In recent decades, Corney & Barrow has further expanded its operations, opening offices in Hong Kong and Singapore to tap into the growing Asian wine market. The company remains family-owned and continues to uphold its tradition of excellence in wine sourcing, distribution, and hospitality.


Corney & Barrow’s Royal Warrants date back to George V in 1912, when they were first introduced. Royal Warrants are a mark of recognition to individuals or companies who have supplied goods or services for at least five years to the Royal family. Corney & Barrow currently holds two Royal Warrants, as suppliers to the late HM Queen Elizabeth II and the former HRH The Prince of Wales. As Warrant holders we may display the relevant Royal Arms and the legend ‘By Appointment’ on products, premises, stationery, vehicles and advertising.


Today, Corney & Barrow is renowned for its extensive wine portfolio, which includes selections from some of the world’s most prestigious wine regions.
